Abstract
This study analyzes rural household consumption patterns and identifies cooperative business opportunities in Penukal Utara District, Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir Regency, South Sumatra, Indonesia. Using precision village data encompassing 13 villages with a total population of 18,077 residents and 5,881 households, this research examines consumption expenditures across multiple sectors including food, energy, telecommunications, healthcare, education, and agriculture. The findings reveal that the total annual economic potential of the studied villages reaches Rp323.8 billion, with average monthly household consumption ranging from Rp19.9 million to Rp171.5 million per village. Key consumption commodities include rice (Rp1.7 billion/month), cigarettes (Rp1.5 billion/month), and LPG gas (Rp808 million/month). The study identifies significant cooperative business opportunities in the livestock sector (cattle and goat farming), agricultural processing (rubber and palm oil), consumer cooperatives for staple goods, and service-based cooperatives for tax administration and electronic appliance maintenance. The research contributes to the understanding of rural economic ecosystems and provides practical recommendations for village-owned enterprise development and cooperative establishment.
